About Our Farm:
Scioto Prairie Farms is a third-generation family farm located in Grand Prairie Township, Marion Ohio. Over the years, our farm has raised a variety of crops including trees, corn, soybeans, oats, wheat, and hay.
In 2005, Scioto Prairie Farms enrolled in the US Department of Agriculture Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) which supports farms in planting and maintaining cover crops. These crops cover the soil where they are planted, helping to reduce soil erosion, weeds, pests, and diseases while promoting biodiversity, fertility, and water quality. Our Farm sits along the Little Scioto River which serves as a watershed for Columbus. The prairie grass (cover crops) surrounding our Christmas Trees help protect Ohio’s water supply. In addition to our investment in cover crops, we surround our trees with white clover as a natural method for weed control. This clover is a pollinator-friendly plant that provides pollen for honeybees. While shopping at our farm, take pride in purchasing trees raised through environmentally sound practices.
Mission: Scioto Prairie Farms seeks to produce high-quality Christmas Trees, while bringing holiday cheer to families through a faith-filled Christmas.
In 2000 Scioto Prairie Farms planted its first batch of Christmas trees and approximately 10 years later, Scioto Prairie Farms sold its first small batch of trees. Scioto Prairie Farms has been growing its customer base ever since. With approximately 5 current acres of Christmas trees, Scioto Prairie is expanding its Christmas tree acres annually with the goal of reaching approximately 8 acres of planted trees in 2026. Christmas trees are ready for sale about 8-12 years after planting; this means the trees planted in 2026, won’t be ready for sale until about 2036!
With trees being a truly long-term investment, we seek to grow and maintain a strong customer base that is excited to return year after year for the perfect Christmas tree! We also strive to keep Christ in Christmas with fun nativity stories and activities for kids.
